about

An original composition in 2016. The rhythm was done in the style of Tsugaru Jamisen, and the harmony was arranged to go with the composed melody. You can hear the rhythm pattern called “Nagashi (oroshi)” in the middle of the song. It is played by taiko drums and used for sumo, gagaku, kabuki, and so on. The beat becomes quicker, and the pattern can also be heard in the music of China, Taiwan, and the South Sea Islands. I originally wrote this piece for guitar, but this new arrangement with tsugaru shamisen made me see a vision in which my respect for traditional music changes its shape and becomes something new. Other arrangements of the piece are included in the album by Conguero Tres Hoofers called “Musical Traveler” (2018). - Yukihiro Atsumi
