Just like Sanbaso, Dojoji is a popular piece that has been arranged in many ways in Noh, Kabuki, Joruri, and so on. The story is about a monk and a girl, and it includes many tales. I arranged the piece originally played by koto, shamisen and shakuhachi for koto (also singing) and guitar. Many Buddhist anecdotes are told in the story, but the central theme is a grudge of a woman, which gives me a creepy feeling. Many songs of dark emotions were written and popular in the recent Showa period as well. It seems that Japanese people like this kind of theme since long ago. - Yukihiro Atsumi
