about

This piece represents Ningyo Joruri (Japanese puppet show) from the 16th century (the Azuchi-Momoyama period). It was arranged into the current form in the 18th century (the Edo period). A bountiful grain harvest, world peace, and national tranquility are the themes of the piece. Sanbaso has existed for more than 1300 years and has been arranged into many different styles in Noh and Kabuki etc. Suzunodan is played when the 40-minute drama reaches its climax. The sound of futozao (thick neck) shamisen and ohayashi (orchestra of drums and flutes) excites us and the story is comical. I feel the themes of the piece are once again important for our future. My other arrangements of this piece are included in "NIPPON NOTE 2.0" and "Cosmic Yard" by DJ KRUSH (the piece is called Divine Protection). - Yukihiro Atsumi
