about

One of the Tsugaru minyo (folk songs) from northern Aomori prefecture established in the late 19th century (the Edo period - the Meiji period). It was written by Unichiku Narita (1889-1974) and released in 1933, and it is categorized as “shin minyo” (modern folk songs). A Toyama folk song was used as a base of this song. Waiha is a word that expresses a feeling of being surprised. I arranged the piece considering the melody that reminds of waves in the ocean. The songs written in the recent Showa period are very easy to understand compared to the pieces written before the Edo period. Mr. Narita apparently traveled overseas to Taiwan and China to promote Japanese folk songs, and I try to do the same, thinking I am given the baton from my predecessor. - Yukihiro Atsumi
